The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) says no fewer than 1,500 teachers in senior secondary schools across the country will be trained on digital literacy.

The Executive Secretary of NSSEC, Dr Iyela Ajayi, said this on Tuesday when he assessed projects of the commission at the Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, Ondo State.

The projects were: 500-seater multi-purpose hall, 12 classrooms with two office building and complete renovation of e-library complex.

Ajayi said that the commission through an Act 2023 is to regulate, coordinate and provide intervention for senior secondary education across the country.

He explained that the training would give the beneficiaries digital knowledge that would have multiplier effects on education in the country.

According to him, 50 selected senior secondary schools across the 36 states including FCT have been earmarked for upgrade by the commission.

The executive secretary said that Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, was one of the beneficiaries of the intervention, commending the contractors handling the three projects in the school for doing a good job.

“My assessment is simple. The contractor is doing well. He has tremendous progress and we are happy with the level of the job and the job quality.

“He has promised to deliver by the end of this month,” Ajayi said.

He noted that President Bola Tinubu was committed to quality education and infrastructural development for effective teaching and learning.

Ajayi stated that the commission is partnering with Google in training 6,000 teachers in artificial intelligence and digital literacy in senior secondary education in the country.

Earlier, the executive secretary visited the state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, commending the state government for establishing Ondo State Senior Secondary Education Board.

He said that the establishment of the board would further strengthen collaboration with NSSEC, serving as a catalyst to accelerate transformation of senior secondary education in the state.

Ajayi announced that the commission would site its South-West zonal office in Akure, commending the state government for its giant strides in the sector.

Responding to the visit, the Commissioner for Education, Ajibefun, commended the NSSEC for its intervention and its achievements so far, promising that the state would align with its objectives and visions.

Also, the Principal of Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, Mr Adeniyi Oluyide, appreciated the commission for catering for the needs of the senior secondary school education.
