Three primary school pupils have emerged as winners of the 2024/2025 MoneyBee Competition, a financial literacy initiative by Junior Achievement Nigeria in partnership with Prudence Foundation.

The nationwide contest, designed to instill essential money management skills in young learners, saw Akosile Opendoors from God’s Foundation School, Ondo State, claim the top prize.

Abdulrahman Burhan of Sacson Nursery and Primary School, Lagos State, secured second place, while Adedoyin Delight from M & N Model School, Akure, Ondo State, finished in third place.

The competition featured two key phases—Cha-Ching, which introduced participants to fundamental financial concepts, and MoneyBee, where students demonstrated their knowledge and decision-making skills in a rigorous online examination.

The initiative engaged over 25,000 pupils across 20 states, culminating in a hybrid Grand Finale where eight finalists battled for the top spots.

Speaking at the event, Head of Branding & Communications-Project, Prudence Foundation, Jennifer Okereke, underscored the importance of early financial education.

She said, “Financial literacy is a critical life skill, and through this program, we have equipped young minds with the knowledge they need to make smart money choices from an early age. By teaching the principles of earning, saving, spending, and donating, we are shaping a generation that understands financial responsibility.”

Program Officer, Oluwatosin Oyetayo, lauded the participants’ dedication and intelligence, stating that the competition showcased the incredible financial acumen and critical thinking abilities of young Nigerians.

“From over 25,000 participants across 20 states, our eight finalists gave it their all, proving that financial literacy starts early. This was more than just a competition—it was a celebration of learning, digital inclusion, and the bright future of financially savvy young minds,” she said.

The Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, Ugonna Achebe, emphasized that financial literacy is a crucial life skill that must be nurtured early.

“The MoneyBee Competition ensures that young Nigerians develop a strong foundation in financial decision-making. It is inspiring to see pupils showcase their knowledge and confidence at every stage of the contest,” she said.

Achebe also extended gratitude to Prudence Foundation, Prudential Zenith Life Insurance, Channels TV, volunteers, school owners, teachers, and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the event.

“Together, we are fostering financial literacy and preparing young Nigerians for a financially responsible future,” she added.
