Funded by the British Council, the ongoing research and capacity-building initiative on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Nigerian tertiary institutions will continue with workshops scheduled to hold at the University of Abuja on 15th October 2025.

It will move to LASU Main Campus, Ojo, on 23rd October 2025 before shifting to the Epe Campus of the same institution on 29th October 2025.

The research initiative, titled “Gender-Based Violence in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria: Developing a Framework for Report and Support Channels, Policy and practice”, is jointly led by Dr Omolabake Fakunle, Principal Investigator on the project and Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh, and Professor Igot Ofem, Acting Director of the Lagos State University Centre for Response and Prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (CRPSGBV).

The project is a collaboration between the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and Lagos State University (LASU), Nigeria, under the British Councils' Going Global Gender Equality Partnerships.

Following earlier phases held at LASU College of Medicine (11th September 2025) and the University of Ibadan (16th September 2025), the workshops have featured courtesy visits to university leadership, engaging keynote addresses, and interactive sessions where students and staff discussed challenges and solutions to GBV reporting and support.

With LASU recognised as the first Nigerian university to establish a dedicated Centre for the Response and Prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (CRPSGBV), the collaboration seeks to strengthen GBV reporting mechanisms, enhance institutional support systems, and advance gender-related policy development in both Nigeria and the UK.
