The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to establish a School of Hospitality Management to train a new generation of professionals capable of delivering world-class guest experiences across hotels in the state.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anietie Udofia, disclosed this to journalists in Uyo over the weekend. He explained that the initiative aligns with the ongoing transformation of the state’s tourism landscape.

As part of efforts to position Akwa Ibom as Nigeria’s most desirable destination for conferences, leisure, and culture, Dr. Udofia revealed that Governor Umo Eno has approved the comprehensive renovation of the prestigious Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort.

The renovation is expected to bring the facility up to global standards comparable to Eko Hotel in Lagos and other top hospitality destinations nationwide.

“The Governor has graciously approved a complete overhaul of Ibom Hotels from infrastructure to energy systems, transitioning from diesel generators to gas-powered efficiency. This is part of our strategy to rebrand the hotel and establish Akwa Ibom as a leading hub for business, tourism and leisure,” Udofia stated.

He further disclosed that work will soon commence on the Ibom International Conference Centre and the Ibom Tropicana Hotel, which features 200 rooms and is expected to serve as a cornerstone in boosting the state’s capacity to host large-scale events.

Beyond infrastructure, Dr. Udofia told newsmen that the Umo Eno administration is also prioritizing human capital development. He said the state government is in discussions with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change to introduce global best practices into hospitality training programs.
