Governor Dauda Lawal recruited 4,000 teachers and upgraded 789 schools in the last three years in a bold move to overhaul the education sector in Zamfara State.
This was revealed by the Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in a report titled “Three Years of Restoring Hope, Rebuilding Schools, Transforming Learning.”
The report chronicles the achievements of Governor Lawal’s administration in the education sector from 2023 to 2026.
Under Governor Lawal’s Rescue Mission Agenda, the education ministry, the report said, recorded far-reaching achievements across access, infrastructure, teacher supply, digital learning, policy reform, and quality assurance.
The report shows that 500 Science teachers were recruited and deployed statewide to directly address the critical shortage of science educators in secondary schools.
Another 500 TVET teachers have been selected, prioritising computer and entrepreneurship subject teachers to support technical and vocational schools.
The governor also approved the recruitment of 3,050 basic school teachers through an open, merit–based digital portal – targeted at underserved and rural schools.
To transform school management and operations to global standards, the state organised an 18-day intensive capacity-building programme for teachers, principals, quality assurance school evaluators, and education administrators on the Global Standard Teacher Transformational Program (GSTTP).
Under the scheme, which was organised for 1,000 teachers, the first cohort of 250 education personnel benefited, according to the report.
During the period under review, Governor Lawal’s administration prioritised safe, inclusive, and functional learning environments.
