Twenty women drawn from various women’s organisations have been trained on the Wiki Loves Women #SheSaid Campaign in Kaduna State.
The training was aimed at improving the visibility of women and amplifying their voices on global digital platforms.
The training, organised by the SheSaid Hausa Team led by Bashir Muhammad, also focused on enhancing participants’ ability to create and improve Wikiquote articles related to women and their achievements.
According to Muhammad, the workshop sought to equip the women with the skills to contribute meaningfully to Wikimedia projects and to ensure balanced representation of women’s voices in the digital space.
He explained that the #SheSaid campaign, an initiative under Wiki Loves Women, encouraged the creation and translation of quotations by notable women to promote gender equity and digital inclusion.
“We are committed to improving the visibility of women across Wikimedia platforms by training women on how to create and edit Wikiquote entries.
“This effort is about amplifying women’s voices and ensuring their contributions to society are well documented,” Muhammad said.
In addition to the Kaduna training, the team also conducted a similar session for 100 students of the Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management, with 60 percent of the participants being women.
The Katsina session focused on introducing students to Wikimedia tools and guiding them on how to participate in the upcoming SheSaid campaign, which runs from September to December 2025.
Muhammad stated that empowering young people, especially women, to participate in open digital knowledge projects was crucial to bridging the gender gap in online information spaces.
He said the training would inspire more women to join digital communities, contribute local content, and tell stories that highlight women’s impact in various fields.
“The more women we have contributing to Wikimedia platforms, the richer and more inclusive our digital knowledge base becomes,” he added.
Participants at both training sessions expressed appreciation to the organisers and pledged to apply the knowledge gained to promote women’s representation in digital content creation.
The SheSaid Hausa Team is part of the wider Wiki Loves Women initiative, which supports gender equity by empowering women and girls to engage with and contribute to the Wikimedia movement and other open knowledge platforms.
