Six months after her appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe on Wednesday assumed office.

Adejuyigbe’s assumption of office followed the release of the white paper, which was based on the report submitted to the Visitor to the University, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, by the visitation panel.

Aiyedatiwa had, on March 7, 2027, constituted the visitation panel with the mandate that its report be submitted within six weeks, after which the new vice-chancellor will resume.

However, Adejuyigbe, a consultant paediatrician at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, had been unable to resume following the submission of the report by the panel.

A statement from Mr. Isaac Oluyi, Head of Media and Protocol at the state government-owned specialised institution, announced that Adejuyigbe will serve as the university’s third substantive and first female Vice-Chancellor.

He said, “Adejuyigbe, a professor of paediatrics, hails from the Akoko North East Local Government Area of the state. She is the current Executive Director of the Central Office of Research at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and a Consultant Paediatrician at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital.

“She is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine, former Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, OAU, and the Vice-President of the African Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Co-Chair of the National Child Health Technical Working Committee.

“Recall that Prof. Adejuyigbe’s appointment was made public on Friday, 7th March, 2025, based on the recommendation of the Governing Council of the institution to the Executive Governor of Ondo State.”

Adejuyigbe was appointed following the expiration of the tenure of the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, on March 9, 2025.
