Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to corporate social responsibility and youth empowerment with the graduation of 36 trainees from its Batch 2025 Vocational Training Programme.

The programme, conducted through the company’s Academy, focused on technical skills in carpentry, masonry, and plumbing, reflecting Julius Berger’s dedication to sustainable skills development and community capacity building.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Director of Administration, Dr. Abdulaziz Isa Kaita, described the event as more than a celebration of completion, calling it a demonstration of purpose and measurable impact. He stressed that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) should be sustainable and impactful, noting that the Vocational Support Programme embodies these principles.

Dr. Kaita emphasized that graduation marks the beginning of a new journey for the trainees, as the initiative aims to scale further to equip more Nigerian youths with certified technical skills. He highlighted the broader economic benefits, explaining that skilled artisans reduce import dependency, improve construction quality, increase productivity, and foster small enterprises — key drivers of grassroots economic transformation.

Addressing the graduates, he urged them to “step forward with confidence, build with excellence, work with integrity, and grow with discipline,” noting that their training provides a solid foundation for personal and national development.

Olorunfemi Ojomo, Head of Human Resources, commended the trainees’ dedication and reiterated Julius Berger’s focus on human capital investment as a strategic tool for national growth. He emphasized that the programme not only strengthens Nigeria’s construction sector but also empowers individuals and uplifts communities.

Talent Manager, Mrs. Goodness Onoja, highlighted the programme’s evolution from automotive training in 2024 to its expansion in 2025 to carpentry, masonry, and plumbing. Out of 40 trainees, 36 successfully completed the programme, including two female graduates. All participants will receive Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) Level 1 and Level 2 certifications, providing industry-recognized credentials aligned with national standards.

Looking ahead, Mrs. Onoja revealed that the 2026 batch, beginning in late April, will expand training streams to include electrical installation and solar technology. The initiative will benefit from a strategic partnership with GIZ, which has provided technical expertise to strengthen curriculum, training materials, and infrastructure to international standards.

Class President Ms. Victorious O. Odah expressed gratitude on behalf of the graduates, acknowledging the company for providing a structured learning environment that promoted professionalism, discipline, and technical excellence. She noted that the programme equipped participants with practical skills ranging from plumbing and masonry to carpentry, while boosting confidence and readiness for the workforce.

The programme combined hands-on instruction, mentorship, and structured learning designed to enhance employability and entrepreneurial opportunities, aligning with global best practices in construction and engineering.

The graduation event included key Julius Berger staff such as Dr. Abdulaziz Kaita Isa, James Agama (Head, Corporate Communications), Olorunfemi Ojomo, Ajamah Himernuel (Academy Coordinator), Mrs. Goodness Onoja, and representatives from the Media Relations Office.

Through initiatives like the Vocational Support Programme, Julius Berger continues to reinforce its commitment to building not only infrastructure but also communities and futures.
