‎The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, has formally conceded the management of King’s College, Lagos, to the King’s College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA).

The development marks a major shift in the administration of the long-established federal secondary school.

The decision was contained in a letter dated September 4, 2026, signed on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, by the Director, Overseeing Office of the Permanent Secretary, Dr Folake Olatunji-David.

In the letter addressed to the Principal of King’s College, the ministry said all processes leading to the signing of the concession agreement had been concluded, resulting in the concession of the college to KCOBA.

The ministry added that arrangements had been concluded to hand over the institution to the old boys’ association with immediate effect for the implementation of the agreement.

As part of the transition process, a Transition Committee will be constituted to facilitate the seamless transfer of the college’s management to KCOBA.

The committee has been given six months to complete the transition, after which funding for the college from the Federation Account will cease.

The ministry consequently directed the school management to activate the necessary arrangements for the smooth transfer of administrative responsibilities to KCOBA.

The Principal was also directed to provide the Transition Committee with a list of staff willing to remain in the employment of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC).

The concession represents a significant development in the management of one of Nigeria’s oldest secondary schools, as KCOBA prepares to assume a greater role in the institution’s administration and development.

The Federal Ministry of Education directed that the contents of the letter be brought to the attention of all relevant stakeholders to facilitate the transition.
