An International Baccalaureate two (IB2) student of Greensprings School, Amara Nwuneli, has won the Earth Prize Awards, a global competition recognising outstanding contributions to environmental sustainability.

Nwuneli emerged winner for the African region from over 10,000 student applicants worldwide.

She was awarded $12,500 in recognition of her impactful work through her youth-led non-governmental organisation, ‘Preserve Our Roots,’ which focuses on promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices among young people.

Her visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to green initiatives have inspired her peers and garnered well-deserved global acclaim.

Similarly, her teacher, Mr Gbenga Ogunlade, won the Educator of the Year Award for his exceptional mentorship and commitment to nurturing the next generation of environmental leaders, and was rewarded with $2,500 cash prize.

NWU nominated Ogunlade for the award, citing his invaluable support and guidance throughout her journey.
