Ecobank Nigeria has marked the 14th edition of its annual Ecobank Day initiative with digital literacy sessions and donations of educational materials to students in four regions of the country.
The programme, held under the theme “Digital Education”, targeted young people, particularly persons with disabilities, with the aim of equipping them with essential digital skills for educational, personal and career development.
The selected institutions were Hope Fountain Foundation for the Deaf in Agege, Lagos; Ibadan School for the Deaf in Ibadan; Special Secondary School for the Deaf in Odakpu, Onitsha; and Kaduna State Special Education School in Kaduna.
As part of the initiative, Ecobank employees visited the schools to conduct digital literacy sessions and donate learning materials and educational resources to support students’ development in an increasingly technology-driven world.
The bank said the initiative reflected its commitment to promoting education and digital inclusion while extending its impact beyond banking to support communities across Africa.
Speaking during the commemoration, the Managing Director and Regional Executive of Ecobank Nigeria, Bolaji Lawal, said the annual initiative demonstrated the bank’s commitment to empowering people and contributing to sustainable development.
“It is a pleasure to join you today as we commemorate the 14th edition of Ecobank Day, our Group-wide Corporate Social Responsibility initiative dedicated to creating meaningful impact across the communities we serve,” Lawal said.
“Ecobank Day reflects our commitment to being more than a bank. It demonstrates our dedication to empowering people and contributing to sustainable development across Africa.”
Lawal stressed the growing importance of digital education in bridging knowledge gaps and creating opportunities for young people, particularly those living with disabilities.
He said access to digital knowledge was essential to enabling students to participate meaningfully in the modern economy, where technology increasingly shapes educational and professional opportunities.
School proprietors and administrators who participated in the programme commended Ecobank for the intervention, describing it as timely and beneficial to students.
They said the initiative would broaden students’ access to digital knowledge and opportunities, while expressing appreciation to the bank for investing in young people and supporting inclusive education in their communities.
Ecobank Day is an annual corporate social responsibility initiative that brings together employees of the Ecobank Group across Africa to undertake volunteer activities addressing social challenges.
Now in its 14th edition, the initiative continues to provide a platform for the bank to support community development and promote sustainable change in the countries where it operates.
Through this year’s focus on digital education, Ecobank reiterated its commitment to helping young Africans, including persons with disabilities, develop the skills needed to navigate an increasingly digital future.
