The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed disappointment at the failure of the Federal Government to honour the agreement it reached with the union last December.

The federal government had agreed to pay the salary arreas of members of the union up to December and also refund all illegally deducted salaries. However, from the information reaching Boldscholar, the union is yet to receive December salary. Even the union's Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) is yet to be paid.

The Guardian quoted a member of the union, Ashiru, as saying, "The government failed to pay members’ illegally deducted salaries before December 31, 2020, and as of January 3, we are yet to receive December 2020 salary. Government promised to refund our illegally deducted check-off dues before December 31, 2020, but that has not been done as we speak. They promised to credit the Earned Academic Allowances account before December 31 and that also has not been done.”

On December 24, 2020, ASUU temporarily suspended its ten-month-old industrial action with the intention of resuming the strike if FG fails to honour the agreement.

The union had protested FG's failure to honour previous agreements in addition to inclusion on IPPIS payment portal.
