Aptech, a renowned global provider of vocational and tech-focused education, has announced that it has successfully trained more than 100,000 students in Information Technology (IT), multimedia, and animation over the course of its 25-year presence in Nigeria.
Executive Vice President of the firm, Kallol Mukherjee, stated this in Abuja at the 17th edition of its flagship educational enlightenment event — Career Quest.
The event also marked the 25th anniversary of Aptech’s operations in the country.
Mukherjee highlighted the company’s mission as a ‘skilling company’ focused on employability.
“We have trained more than 100,000 students in IT, multimedia, and animation — making them employable and giving them access to world-class education with the latest content and curriculum,” he said.
He added that Aptech’s distinctive academic pathway enables Nigerian students to cut up to 71% of the cost of a UK degree by completing the first two years in Nigeria and finishing the final year in the United Kingdom.
Highlighting the rising unemployment rate in Nigeria, Mukherjee stressed the critical role of IT skills in addressing the issue.
Reflecting on the organisation’s growth, Mukherjee acknowledged the need to expand beyond major cities and bring quality IT education closer to underserved communities.
His words: “We currently have 60 centres across Nigeria, but our goal is to reach 100 centres so that Aptech becomes a household name nationwide. That’s our challenge, and we are fully committed to meeting it.”
In his remarks, the Managing Director/CEO of Aptech Nigeria, Rajeev Venugopal, reflected on the organisation’s journey and its transformative impact on Nigeria’s education and employment landscape.
“We started this mission in the year 2000, as Nigeria stepped into a new millennium. Back then, I saw that many young Nigerians, despite holding degrees, struggled to find meaningful employment. That was the moment I realised something had to change,” he said.
He noted that this realisation led to a strategic partnership with Aptech Global, one of the world’s foremost IT training institutions. According to him, the collaboration birthed the first Aptech centre in Maryland, Lagos, which has since evolved into a global brand.
Sharing his testimony, an alumnus of the institution, Salihu Yakudima (Walid), recounted how his time at Aptech transformed his career trajectory.
He explained that the training not only equipped him with cutting-edge technical skills but also instilled the confidence to compete globally in the IT sector.
Walid noted that Aptech’s blend of practical and theoretical learning prepared him to thrive in both local and international markets, adding that many graduates like him have gone on to become innovators, entrepreneurs, and professionals making significant contributions to Nigeria’s digital economy.
Media reports that while six Aptech students won 50 per cent scholarships to study at Middlesex University in the United Kingdom, six others clinched 50 per cent scholarships to study the Advanced Diploma in Software Engineering at Aptech Centre in Abuja.
