Festac Town, headquarters of Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos will, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, come alive as residents host the 4th Lagos Book Walk as they line the streets clutching books, sharing stories.

Children, parents, teachers, and literacy enthusiasts will gather for the fourth edition of the Lagos Book Walk.

The initiative, which began as a bold idea to promote the reading vulture in Nigeria’s busy cities has now become a marked annual celebration of knowledge as the entire Amuwo-Odofin community relishes the joy of reading books and turn pages of books, continues to grow bigger yearly.

Participants will carry books, banners, and enthusiasm, not in protest, but in proud affirmation that reading remains essential even in a digital age.

The walk will kick off at 7:00AM from the Festac First Gate, a familiar landmark for many locals, and proceed to the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Secretariat along 41 Road.

According to the organisers, this book walk is not a mere stroll through the neighbourhood but a public declaration that children deserve ready access to good books, and that families thrive when their minds are fed, and that Nigeria’s reading culture grows stronger when people come together to celebrate it openly.

Recall that the previous walks held in Ikeja, Ikoyi, Lagos Island, and Ikorodu drew excited crowds of young readers waving new books like prizes.

According to a statement by the organizers, “this is not just a walk. It is a statement that reading still matters. That children deserve access to books. That communities grow when minds are nourished.

“Nigeria’s reading culture will not improve by accident. It improves when people show up, when books are made visible, and when children see reading celebrated in public spaces. The 4th Lagos Book Walk is part of that change.

“From Festac First Gate, a recognised Amuwo-Odofin landmark, to Amuwo Odofin LGA, Festac Town, participants will walk with purpose, energy, and pride,” it added. .

The statement further stressed that the event will feature “children’s reading sessions, books provided for all participants, book sales and book gifts, games, music, and fun-fair, networking with educators, authors, and partners and a safe, family-friendly environment. This is where learning meets fun and reading meets community.” the organisers stated.”

Expected at the event are schools (primary and secondary) children and young people, parents and families, teachers and librarians, authors, publishers, and literacy advocates, community leaders, organisations, and partners.

The organisers appealed to participants to be a part of the advocacy for raising readers, building communities, and shaping future leaders, while celebrating the power of reading.
