The Lagos State Government, through its Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, has launched a state-of-the-art Digital Teaching Hub in partnership with tech solutions company WALURE and the Education Resource Centre, as part of efforts to close the digital divide in public education.
Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, on Wednesday, describing it as a game-changer that will reshape teaching and learning across public schools in Lagos.
Located within the Education Resource Centre and managed by the ministry, the facility is equipped to offer advanced digital learning tools for both students and teachers. It supports live-streamed and pre-recorded content accessible through various online and social media platforms, including Instagram.
Alli-Balogun emphasised the hub’s potential to revolutionize the state’s education system, stating, “This goes beyond infrastructure, it’s a dynamic platform for student-teacher engagement, mentorship, capacity building, and subject-based instruction in real-time.”
Highlighting the state’s dedication to technological integration in education, he noted, “Education is our future, and ICT is the engine that drives it. By combining both, we’re already ahead on the path of progress.”
He stressed the importance of maintaining and scaling the initiative for sustained impact and revealed that the government plans to expand its content to include subjects relevant to the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), along with vocational and technical training.
“This is just the starting point. We are working to add more subjects and bring more technical schools into the fold,” he stated.
According to him, the project has already caught the attention of the Federal Government. “We recently had talks with the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who is developing similar initiatives. If Lagos had launched this earlier, we would have been a national model.”
He recommended the hub’s framework to other states and countries as a replicable model for integrating digital technology into mainstream education.
“This initiative shows that when government vision meets private sector support, we can reshape the future of education for generations,” Alli-Balogun concluded.
WALURE’s General Manager, Mr. Obafemi Okunbanjo, praised the partnership as a milestone in public-private collaboration, emphasising its goal to enhance educational quality and boost student achievement in Lagos.
“This hub demonstrates how bridging traditional teaching with digital innovation can lead to tangible improvements in learning outcomes,” he said. “We believe its impact will be long-lasting and serve as an example for others to follow.”
He reiterated that the hub aims to transform both student and teacher experiences in the classroom, helping to modernize education delivery in line with global trends.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, also expressed optimism about the hub’s potential. “This project represents a crucial step toward transforming the teaching and learning process. It’s an investment in our collective future.”
She underscored the hub’s dual role, saying it will also function as a training ground for teachers. “Capacity building is essential if we’re to uplift the entire education system,” she said.
With the launch of this digital hub, Lagos sets a precedent for how technology can be effectively deployed to bridge educational gaps and improve academic outcomes across public schools.
