Unilorin Crowned Champions of The 12th Nigerian Varsities Debating Championship

The 12th All-Nigeria Universities Debating Championship (ANUDC) has ended with the host institution, the University of Ilorin, emerging overall champions in Public Speaking and winner of the Novice Debate stream.

Unilorin Crowned Champions of The 12th Nigerian Varsities Debating Championship

 

The 12th All-Nigeria Universities Debating Championship (ANUDC) has ended with the host institution, the University of Ilorin, emerging overall champions in Public Speaking and winner of the Novice Debate stream.

In the Debate Mainstream category, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, clinched the championship title, while the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and Veritas University, Abuja, placed second and third, respectively.

In the Novice Debate, UNILORIN came first, ahead of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

The university also celebrated individual brilliance, with Olafisoye Alexander and Tivlumun Alexander ranking among the top 3 Best Speakers of the championship.

In the Quiz Challenge, the University of Uyo emerged champions, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, came second, while UNILORIN secured third place.

The competition drew participants from universities across the country, including the University of Ibadan; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; University of Uyo; Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike; Lagos State University; Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Bayero University, Kano; Nile University of Nigeria; and the University of Maiduguri, among several others from both northern and southern states.

In their closing remarks, members of the Organising Committee described the Championship as a platform for nurturing critical thinking, leadership, and intellectual exchange among Nigerian youths.

They commended the University of Ilorin for hosting the 12th edition and urged participants to carry the lessons of teamwork, excellence, and constructive dialogue into their future engagements.

Participants also expressed overwhelming appreciation for the hospitality and organisation of the host university. Many described UNILORIN as a conducive environment for intellectual competition, praising the seamless logistics, fairness of adjudication, and warm reception by the Local Organising Committee. Some participants said the experience would remain a lifelong memory, combining competitive spirit with friendship and cultural exchange.

The championship attracted students from leading institutions nationwide, with UNILORIN reinforcing its reputation as a hub of academic and intellectual excellence.
