The management of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has officially announced the dates and details for its 39th convocation ceremonies, scheduled for the 2022/2023 academic session.
According to a statement addressed to the graduands by the university’s registrar, M.A. Alfanla, the event, which will span from Friday, 11th October to Sunday, 27th October 2024, is set to take place at the university’s main campus.
The convocation will begin with a special Juma’at service on Friday, 11th October at the UNILORIN Central Mosque, followed by an interdenominational worship service on Sunday, 13th October at the Chapel of the Light, located on the university’s main campus.
Other significant events will include the Vice-Chancellor’s press briefing on Thursday, 17th October, and the convocation lecture by the Honourable Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN, on Friday, 18th October. The lecture, titled Nurturing Democratic Values for the Future of Education in Nigeria will explore key educational challenges.
The convocation ceremonies will fully commence at the university auditorium on Monday, 21st October, with the awarding of four-year first degrees and diplomas to graduands from the Faculties of Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Communication and Information Sciences, Education, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Management Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences.
The ceremonies will continue on Tuesday, 22nd October, with the graduation of students from five- and six-year programmes, as well as the awarding of postgraduate degrees to graduands from the Faculties of Agriculture, Engineering and Technology, Environmental Sciences, Basic Clinical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Law, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Sciences (OP), and Veterinary Medicine.
Graduands are expected to complete the necessary payments for academic gowns, transcripts, and convocation materials, with charges ranging from N15,000 for PhD students to N26,500 for undergraduate students.
In addition to academic activities, there will be various social events, including a convocation luncheon and the commissioning of projects by the university visitor.
The convocation will conclude with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, 27th October 2024 at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy, UNILORIN.
In related news, the management of Redeemer’s University released an officially dates and details for its 16th convocation ceremony, scheduled for the 2023/2024 academic session.
According to a statement addressed to the graduands, the event will span for nine days starting from Wednesday, 2nd October to Friday, 11th October 2024, taking place at the university’s main campus in Ede, Osun State.
The convocation will commence with a live interview with the Vice-Chancellor on Wednesday, 2nd October, airing on OSBC TV at 11:30 a.m. and later on OSBC Radio at 1:15 p.m. The interviews will be held at Osogbo, Osun State. This will be followed by another interview session on Thursday, 3rd October at 9:30 a.m., to be broadcast on Redeemer’s 103.5 FM at Redeemer’s University, Ede.
On the same day, graduating students will attend a special visitor’s meeting, which will take place after the Holy Communion at the RCCG Simawa Arena. The spiritual activities will continue on Friday, 4th October, with an Anointing Service, during the Holy Ghost Service, also at the RCCG Simawa Arena.
The convocation will feature a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, 6th October at 9:00 a.m. in the University Auditorium, Ede, marking a significant moment of gratitude and reflection.
A press conference is scheduled for Monday, 7th October at 1:00 p.m. in the Senate Chamber, followed by a sporting event at 4:00 p.m. at the RUN Sports Arena, both located on the Ede campus.
Tuesday, 8th October will see the presentation of Awards and Recognition to distinguished students at 10:00 a.m., with an Alumni Cocktail taking place later that evening at 6:00 p.m. at the University Auditorium.
The convocation lecture, titled Anchored in Faith: Succeeding with Integrity in a Dynamic World, will be delivered by Mr. Alex Okoh, Director General and former Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Abuja, on Wednesday, 9th October at 11:00 a.m. in the University Auditorium. The day will close with a convocation play at 7:00 p.m. at the BOJA Hall, Redeemer’s University, Ede.
The highlight of the week, the Convocation Ceremony, will take place on Thursday, 10th October at 10:00 a.m. in the University Auditorium, where graduands will receive their degrees and diplomas in the presence of faculty, family, and friends.
Additionally, Redeemer’s University has announced that freshers are to resume for the 2024/2025 academic session on the 14th of October, while returning students are expected back on the 21st of October 2024.
