The medical students of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (UNILAG), under the auspices of the KB KLUB, have launched the 2023 edition of their MediPhil magazine.

The KB KLUB, a socio-philanthropic student organisation, recently launched the MediPhil’23 magazine with the theme ‘Avance: Breaking Barriers’ on the Idi-Araba campus of the university.

Covenant Onyegbula, the general secretary of the Klub, declared the ceremony opened, followed by Professor Abiodun Akinwuntan, who highlighted the Klub’s 55-year growth, and the significance of the magazine’s cover faces, and encouraged everyone to read the magazine.

Paul Oladipupo, the editor of the KB KLUB magazine, described MediPhil as a fusion of MEDIcine and PHILanthropy. He said MediPhil is an annual magazine that sheds light on advancements in the medical field while celebrating philanthropy, a core value of the Klub.

Oladipupo stated that MediPhil’23 featured exclusive interviews with prominent figures and celebrated the Klub’s achievements.

“Readers will also find insightful contributions from luminaries such as Professor Folasade Ogunsola, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos; Professor Wasiu Adeyemo, Chief Medical Director of Lagos University Teaching Hospital; and Professor Abosede Afolabi, the HOD of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Lagos and founder of MRHRC,” he added.

The magazine’s cover featured Dr Filani Oyebanji, Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Ekiti State, who is also an alumnus of KB KLUB; and Honorable Kunle Soname, chairman of KC Gaming Networks and BLFA Group.

The editor of the magazine stated that Dr Oyebanji and Honorable Soname represented the medical and philanthropy faces of this edition of the magazine respectively also capturing the essence of the theme ─ ‘Avance: Breaking barriers’ ─ in their various fields.

Dr Oyebanji expressed his excitement and commended Klub for the gesture, while Honourable Soname shared his inspiration from Klub’s dedication and emphasized the importance of healthcare improvement.

“Through my work, I am committed to advancing healthcare accessibility and quality, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to lead a healthy and fulfilling life,” Soname added.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, congratulated the Klub, expressing her pride in the students and her delight in being a patron.

“It is always a delight to be part of any KB KLUB event. Wherever I go, I proudly boast about you all – students at the top of their game, hardworking and dedicated to the betterment of society and the nation. Look no further than KB KLUB if you seek exceptional people,” she said.

A video interview with Klub’s founding father, Professor Oladapo Ashiru, preceded a speech by the Deputy Provost, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Professor Odebiyi, on behalf of the Provost, Professor David Oke.

Professor Oke stated that the theme of the magazine captured Klub’s spirit, adding, “This magazine is not just about showcasing achievements, but also about inspiring future generations to break barriers and pursue excellence in their chosen fields.”

The event included a documentary showcasing Klub’s accomplishments, such as the blood drive ‘Your Power to Gift Life’, which collected over 400 donations in seven hours.

Mustapha Madehin, the president of the Klub, while launching MediPhil’23, underscored its significance and the Klub’s legacy. He said the MediPhil’23 and previous editions of the magazine are available digitally on KB KLUB’s official website.

“The magazine offers a wealth of knowledge and inspiration. It’s essential reading material for anyone interested in medicine, philanthropy, and academic excellence,” Madehin said.
