The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, has reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to host the 26th edition of the Nigeria University Games Association Championship, scheduled to take place from November 6 to 16, 2025.

Speaking at a strategic stakeholders’ gathering held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday, Ishaya, represented by Abaji Adankala, said preparations were already at 90 per cent.

He stated that the university is positioning itself to deliver one of the most impactful and memorable editions of the prestigious collegiate sporting event.

“We are confident in our capacity to successfully host the national event. As the host university, we are very pleased with the readiness of the consulting and organising teams. We are determined to meet national and international standards for hosting the games,” he said.

He added that the consulting and organising teams had exceeded expectations in rallying support and ensuring that all logistical, sporting, and infrastructural requirements were being met.

The event, which also served as a roadmap presentation, featured key stakeholders, including government agencies and private partners. Among the attending institutions were the National Sports Commission, the Ministry of Youth Development, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Federal Road Safety Corps, signalling a robust multi-agency collaboration aimed at ensuring a smooth and secure tournament.

Group Chairman of Royal CBS, Khalifah Onu, described the 2025 NUGA Games as a transformative event backed by a clear strategy and presidential support. He commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritising youth development and pledged that the tournament would serve as a launchpad for young Nigerian athletes into international sporting careers.

“NUGA 2025 is not just a competition; it is a vehicle for peace, empowerment, and opportunity. Our goal is to uplift Nigerian youths and foster unity across our communities,” he said.

Onu also urged all participating universities to approach the games with a spirit of discipline and excellence, noting that this year’s edition could serve as a gateway to global platforms for many young talents.

Echoing this vision, the Group Director-General of Royal CBS, Ataboh Shehu, outlined a long-term strategy for discovering and nurturing young athletes across the country.

He emphasised the organisation’s ambition to build sports development systems modelled after successful international frameworks, where student-athletes are supported with scholarships and career pathways.
