The appointments of a new substantive Bursar and a new university librarian have been approved by the Governing Council of the University of Benin.

In a statement signed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Benedicta Ehanire, and made available to newsmen in Benin, it was stated that the Council, headed by Professor Umaru Shuaibu, approved the appointments after the interviews for the two keenly contested positions of principal officers of the university.

The new Bursar, Mr Osagie Iguma Uwagboe Osifo, is a graduate of Accounting of the University of Benin and a Fellow of the Chartered System Accountant, USA. He was, until his appointment, Bursar at the Edo State University, Uzairue.

Also appointed is Professor Jane Igie Aba as university librarian. A graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, she is a professor of library and information science.

Professor Aba was librarian at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, from 2016 to 2021 and, until her appointment, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.

The respective appointment is for five years.
