The Governing Council of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), at its regular meeting held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, approved the appointment of Professor Tukur Adamu as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation, and Development) for an initial term of two years. The appointment was made in accordance with the University (Miscellaneous) Provisions Act of 1993, as amended.

This was contained in a statement signed and made available to newsmen on Friday in Sokoto by Ismail Mohammed Yauri, the Public Relations Officer of the university.

Born on February 2, 1962, Professor Adamu is a distinguished scholar in parasitology. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Zoology from Ahmadu Bello University in 1986 and 1993, respectively. He later obtained a Ph.D. in Zoology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), in 1999 and also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (2000).

Professor Adamu joined UDUS as a Graduate Assistant in 1989 and steadily rose through the ranks, becoming a Professor in 2005. Over the years, he has held various academic and administrative positions, including:

Head of the Department of Biological Sciences

Deputy Dean

Director of the School of Matriculation Studies

Until his recent appointment, he served as Chairman of the Management Board of UDUS’s Center for Open and Distance Education.

In another development, the university has dismissed three staff members for offenses including sexual harassment, result falsification, and absconding from duty.

The decision was made by the Governing Council at its 171st regular meeting held on March 12, 2025. The affected individuals were found guilty of the allegations after due process.

The dismissal aligns with the university’s zero-tolerance policy toward gross misconduct, reinforcing its commitment to upholding ethical standards and discipline among staff.
