The Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, has reaffirmed its commitment to establishing digital libraries in basic education schools across the country.
The commission said it is also offering cost-effective measures of providing educational resources to learners and teachers.
The National Coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, DRC, Bashir Galadanci, revealed this while declaring open a three-day training workshop on Digital Library and Education Resource Management at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, Abuja.
Mr Galadanci, who represented the UBEC Executive Secretary, noted that “digital libraries had brought about diverse, multiple, and exciting media formats, including videos, games, and interactive simulations.”
In her remarks, the Head of Capacity Building at the UBEC DRC, Hafsat Kontagora, explained that the training was designed to enhance the understanding of the role of digital libraries and educational resources in smart education delivery.
She added that the training would also provide hands-on experience in organising, categorising, and managing digital content.
Mrs Kontagora stated that the workshop was aimed at improving the skill sets of smart schoolteachers and ICT personnel and equipping them with the necessary knowledge to manage digital libraries and utilise educational resources effectively in order to engender positive teaching and learning outcomes.
The three-day training, which was attended by teachers and ICT managers from the first set of 13 functional smart schools in Nigeria, covered key aspects of digital libraries, educational resource management, and future trends in educational technology.
The program also witnessed practical sessions where the 26 participants were engaged in setting up local servers, cataloguing digital resources, and navigating the UBEC Digital Library.
