The National Essay Competition, targeted at senior secondary students in Nigeria, is organised annually, as part of UBA Foundation’s education initiative which aims to promote the reading culture and encourage healthy and intellectual competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa.

Winner: N7,500,000

First runner-up: N5,000,000

Second runner-up: N3,500,000

Also, the best 75 essays that qualify for the regional test will get N75,000 each.

 

Requirements for UBA National Essay Competition

Must be a Nigerian Senior Secondary School Student

Upload a handwritten essay of 750 words max (not typed)

Upload a recent passport photograph

Upload a scanned copy of Birth Certificate, National ID, or International Passport

 

Selection Procedure

Entries received for the competition will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges made up of professors from reputable Nigerian Universities, who will then shortlist 75 essays for further assessment.

Following this, there will be a regional test (North, South, East, and West) where the 75 shortlisted participants will write a supervised essay. You will be expected to select your preferred region while filling this form.  

20 finalists will be selected from the 75 to sit for the third and final round which will be held at the UBA Head Office Lagos. The three best essays will be selected as the top 3 winners of the competition.

All incomplete and/or duplicate entries will be disqualified.

Ensure your full name is written on your handwritten essay before uploading.
