A pupil at Transcorp Power School, Etagbedavwe Amwarha, has been named the overall winner of the 2025 Delta State Primary School Mathematics Competition, organised by the Delta State Government.
The competition involved three stages. In the first round, 172 pupils participated simultaneously in their respective Local Government Areas, testing foundational mathematical skills under timed conditions. From this pool, 41 pupils from the Delta Central Senatorial District advanced to the second stage, where their problem-solving abilities were rigorously evaluated. The competition then culminated in Asaba with eight finalists vying for the top spot. Etagbedavwe Amwarha outshone them all, demonstrating exceptional aptitude in advanced primary-level mathematics.
Transcorp Power Plc, a key electricity-generating subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc (Transcorp Group)—Nigeria’s leading listed conglomerate with investments in power, hospitality, and energy—runs the Transcorp Power School as part of its community engagement in the Niger Delta.
The school’s success reflects the company’s broader strategy to invest in human capital alongside its core operations at the 972MW Transcorp Ughelli Power Plant.
Commenting on the achievement, Transcorp Power’s MD/CEO, Peter Ikenga, stated:
“We are incredibly proud of Etagbedavwe Amwarha and of everyone at Transcorp Power School who made this extraordinary achievement possible. At Transcorp Power, we have always understood that our responsibility extends beyond generating electricity; it encompasses energising the communities around us. The success of our pupils is the most direct measure of that responsibility fulfilled. We remain committed to creating environments where talent can thrive, and we will continue to invest in the education and future of the young people in our host communities.”
Principal of Transcorp Power School, Mrs Emeji Okeoghene, expressed similar elation: “This victory belongs to every member of the Transcorp Power School family, our dedicated teachers, our hardworking pupils, and the continued support of Transcorp Power Plc. We have always believed in the potential of every child in this school, and Etagbedavwe’s triumph at the state level is the finest proof of that belief. We are immensely proud and deeply motivated to continue setting the highest academic standards for our pupils.”
The young champion, Etagbedavwe Amwarha, shared his gratitude: “I am so happy to have won for my school and my community. I want to thank my teachers and my parents for always encouraging me to keep trying. This makes me want to work even harder. I am grateful for Transcorp Power Plc for creating the platform for me to excel in my academics.”
The company said this victory is part of Transcorp Power’s sustained corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts to empower Niger Delta communities and bridge skills gaps nationwide. Key programs include VSTEEP (Vocational, Science, Technology, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, and Professional Development Programme), the Transcorp Ignite Internship Programme, and collaborations such as its partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation, through which it has sponsored 1,225 entrepreneurs across Nigeria and the Niger Delta region.
As Nigeria advances its energy transition goals and grid reliability improvements, Transcorp Power leverages its position to deliver shareholder value while contributing to national development. The company operates as one of the country’s principal power generators, emphasising both reliable electricity supply and community upliftment.
