The Rotary Club of Effurun GRA has inaugurated a skill acquisition centre at Don Domingo College, Warri, to equip special students with vocational skills.

The District Governor of Rotary International District 9141, Rotarian Anthony Chibueze Olikagu, inaugurated the centre, designed to teach students fashion designing, clothes making and hair braiding.

He charged the students to make good use of the opportunity to acquire skills, adding that the knowledge gain would improve their commercial value in the society.

He also commended the Rotarians behind the project for executing it.

Equipment donated to the centre included sewing machines, a weaving machine, pressing iron, gas cylinder, gas cooker with oven and hairdressing kits, among others. The club also awarded a scholarship to one student.

President of the Rotary Club of Effurun GRA, Rotarian Jonathan Okwuokei, earlier in his welcome address said specialists had been employed to train the students, adding that the initiative would enable them to acquire useful skills while still in school.

Assistant Governor, Area 43, Rotarian Ayodele Enikanselu, commended the club for the intervention, noting that Rotary was committed to improving lives, supporting persons with special needs and adding value to society.

Olikagu also praised the club for executing the project where it was most needed and urged the students to make good use of the facility.

The school principal, Mrs Edirin Ajayi, thanked Rotary for the gesture and prayed for God’s blessings upon the club.
