In celebration of International Women in Engineering Day 2025, Qore—Africa’s leading Fintech Infrastructure and Banking-as-a-Service provider—hosted an inspiring event in Lagos, Nigeria, aimed at igniting the passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among female secondary school students.

This year’s theme, “Together We Engineer,” emphasized the power of collaboration and inclusion in shaping the future of engineering.

“We want girls to see that engineering is not just about machines and equations—it’s about solving real-world problems and making a difference,” said Seyi Amao, head of Marketing and Communications at Qore.

The event brought together students from top Lagos schools, including Grace High School, International School Lagos, Wellsprings College, Dansol High School, Holy Family Saintly Scholars, and Star Diamond School. They participated in interactive sessions with leading female voices in tech, leaving them empowered and energized.

One of the event’s highlights was a stirring keynote address by Sophia O. Emifoniye, founder of SkillBuddi Technologies—an edtech platform dedicated to equipping African youth with critical life skills.

“You are problem solvers. Be builders with purpose. Believe in yourself and what you can achieve,” Sophia urged the students. “Africa needs you not just as dreamers, but as doers,” she added.

Adding more inspiration were sessions from Anthonia Emetarom, Program Manager at WILAN, and Tobi Alaka, founder of Empowher. Both women emphasized the importance of leadership, resilience, and building strong communities.

“We are here to show you that women belong in every boardroom, lab, and data center,” Anthonia said. “It’s not just about surviving in tech—it’s about thriving,” added Alaka.

A hands-on design thinking workshop, facilitated by Us Stem Girls, an initiative under Orange Mic, challenged students to devise innovative solutions to real-world problems. Working in teams, the girls honed their collaboration, critical thinking, and leadership skills.

“Seeing these girls pitch ideas with such clarity and passion proves the future is already bright,” said a facilitator from Us Stem Girls.

As the world navigates challenges like digital transformation and climate change, Qore’s message resonates more than ever. Engineering is a team effort, and diverse teams solve problems better.

“Together We Engineer isn’t just a theme—it’s a movement,” Seyi Amao emphasised. “And every girl here today has a role in shaping tomorrow.” Qore’s commitment to empowering women in STEM goes beyond events.

The Qore Tech Academy, a rigorous one-year training program, continues to shape Africa’s brightest tech minds. In 2024, a milestone was reached: three of the five academy graduates were women, now full-time Qore engineers.
