The authorities of the University of Ilesa, Osun, said staff members of the institution have been directed to prevent improperly dressed students from attending lectures.

The management of the institution also said students found wearing indecent dresses would not be allowed to enter into offices by workers in the university.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Taiwo Asaolu, disclosed this in his address at the second matriculation ceremony of the institution held on the campus of the institution in Ilesa for the freshly admitted students for the 2024/2025 academic sessions on Wednesday.

Asaolu also advised the students to show a high sense of discipline and orderliness on or outside the campus of the university, adding that the institution would neither award its certificate to a student, found wanting in learning nor to the one who lacks discipline and character.

He said, “For easy identification, all students of the University are required to hang their identity cards on their necks or on their chest pockets anywhere they are within the premises of the University because it is the only symbol of identity to avoid any act of embarrassment by the Security Personnel at the University’s entrance.

“An adage says that you are addressed according to how you are dressed. Note that the University will not tolerate any form of dressing that exposes body parts that could infuriate the sensibilities of others.

“Both the Security Personnel and the Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance and Servicom (DIQA & S) of the University have been empowered to arrest offenders for appropriate sanction(s).

“Furthermore, members of staff (teaching and non-teaching) have also been authorised to prevent any improperly dressed student(s) from entering their offices and/or from attending their lectures.”

Declaring that no form of inappropriate behavior would be tolerated by the students, the VC said involvement in cultism, bullying, hooliganism, harassment, brigandage, and other forms of indiscipline would attract serious sanctions.

“In any case, let me advise that if any of you already belonged to any outlawed group, this is a once-and-for-all opportunity for him/her to renounce such a group willingly and present himself/herself to the University for necessary counselling for rehabilitation and reintegration into the society.

“And in case of any threat or pressure from anyone or group for you to join any anti-social/unregistered group, please do not hesitate to immediately report such a person or group to the University’s Security Unit or to the Director, Student Affairs,” Asaolu said.
