The Osun State Government has said about 345,000 current pupils of all public primary and secondary schools in the state would benefit from the Imole School Eye Health Programme.
The Executive Secretary of Osun Health Insurance Agency, Dr Rasaq Akindele, speaking on Tuesday, said under the initiative, comprehensive eye screening and examinations would be carried out for beneficiaries.
He said pupils with refractive errors would receive corrective spectacles, while those requiring medications would be provided with appropriate drugs.
“There are 345,000 pupils and students in these schools, and all of them will be screened and examined. Those with refractive errors will be provided with corrective spectacles, and those in need of medication will receive it.
“Those whose conditions necessitate surgical interventions will be accorded the opportunity,” he said.
He said school-based screening would commence on February 24, with refraction and provision of glasses, drugs and corrective surgeries slated for February 27 to March 7.
He implored parents and guardians to ensure their wards benefit from the opportunity, noting that the initiative was the first of its kind in the state.
