The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has screened 175 Ogunteach intern applicants who scored 40 and above in the qualifying test, as part of efforts to fill vacancies in public primary schools across the state.

Speaking at the Board Secretariat in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, SUBEB Chairman, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, said the screening exercise was designed to verify applicants’ credentials and ensure transparency in the recruitment process.

He urged the candidates to demonstrate readiness to serve in any part of the state, especially rural areas where teachers are in short supply.

“Be prepared to work in rural communities, not just urban centres. Nobody will be posted outside Ogun State, but since we are recruiting for rural schools, it would not make sense to assign you where we already have enough teachers,” Ifede said.

He assured that appointment and resumption letters would be issued before the next academic session, based on qualifications, adding that the internship period would last at least two years before consideration for permanent employment.

“Confirmation is not automatic. You will be monitored and assessed by head teachers and officials from the Quality Assurance Department. If your performance is poor, you will not be retained. Once you resume, carry out your duties diligently,” he warned.

Permanent Member II of the Board, Hon. Isiaka Aderounmu, stressed that only candidates with the requisite teaching qualifications would be considered.

“It would not be appropriate for the board to employ unqualified persons. Applicants must possess degrees from a College of Education or University of Education,” Aderounmu stated.

Earlier, Board Secretary, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, said the exercise would be conducted in batches and advised applicants to maintain decorum as ambassadors of the state.

Some candidates, including Mrs. Ruth Falade from Yewa South and Miss Doris Omouwerah from Ijebu East, thanked the government for the opportunity and pledged to perform their duties with dedication.
