NUC Approves Commencement of Academic Activities for Minaret University

 

First African UNESCO Laureate, Prof Sir Bashiru Aremu, has congratulated the Management of Minaret University, Ikirun, while commending the development that the management of the National Universities Commission (NUC), on November 4, 2025, approved Minaret University, Ikirun, Osun State, Nigeria, to commence academic activities.

Media learnt this today from the pioneer Dean of Faculty of Science and Computing, Minaret University, Ikirun, Nigeria, Prof Sir Bashiru Aremu, in a telephone conversation with our reporter today, being Wednesday, November 5, 2025, as Aremu commended development.

Aremu used the medium to appreciate the University management’s commitment to the institution’s mission and vision statement. According to Aremu, “The university was founded by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community globally”. He stated that the University is set to become a hub for entrepreneurial and pragmatic education.

Prof. Sir Bashiru Aremu, the First African UNESCO Laureate who doubles as Dean of the Faculty of Science and Computing at Minaret University, has congratulated the management and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat worldwide on this achievement. In the words of Prof Sir Bashiru Aremu: “As contained in a letter from the Office of the Executive Secretary of NUC, dated November 4, 2025, the university has met the requirements to start academic activities”.

Minaret University is a private, faith-based institution that aims to provide holistic education, focusing on moral discipline, practical entrepreneurship training, research excellence, and community service. The university’s vision is to produce well-rounded graduates who are job creators, ethical leaders, and committed to serving humanity”.

The university offers a range of undergraduate programs across two faculties: the Faculty of Science and Computing and the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences. The programs include Computer Science, Cyber Security, Data Science, Accounting and Economics, Business Administration, Management & Marketing, and Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

Prof. Sir Bashiru Aremu is a distinguished Nigerian scholar in computer science and information technology, has expressed excitement about the development. The first African UNESCO Laureate is a recipient of the Global Golden Medal and Certificate from UNESCO for outstanding achievements in education, creativity, and intellectual innovation.

“The establishment of Minaret University marks a significant milestone for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, which has demonstrated its commitment to promoting education and community development.
