Mallam Issa Onilu, Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), says the federal government has renovated no fewer than 700 schools across the country.
Onilu said the effort is part of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to provide free and quality education for all Nigerians, particularly those in rural areas.
He spoke on Friday in Birnin Kebbi during the launch of a public awareness campaign on national value reorientation, social safety nets, flooding, and security.
The DG, who was represented by Bala Musa, Director of Media and Communication at the agency’s headquarters, said the campaign will run across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He explained that the exercise was designed to showcase the federal government’s interventions in education, social safety nets, and disaster response.
“Nigerians must adhere to safety rules to remain alive in the face of dangers of flood or otherwise, hence the orientation becomes necessary,” he said.
Onilu said the government has also opened the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to ensure no child misses school because of poverty.
He added that hundreds of thousands of students are already benefiting from the loan scheme, making education “accessible, affordable, and free.”
The DG said the campaign will also promote moral values and national character, urging Nigerians to uphold discipline and positive behaviour both at home and abroad.
He said social safety nets such as trader money and agricultural support are designed to reawaken the potentials of Nigerians and boost confidence in the government.
The event, held at the NOA office in Birnin Kebbi, was attended by the state coordinator, Nasir Karofi, civil society organisations, and media professionals.
