Two Nigerians have launched Hamzry, a naira-based digital marketplace exclusively built for Nigerian freelancers.

Officially launched in April 2025, the project was created to give Nigerian digital professionals a platform to connect with clients around the world.

In a press release sent to media reps, the founders, Nanle Joel and Prince Agala, explained that their inspiration came from their experiences as student freelancers in Turkey.

According to them, they recognised a structural gap between skilled Nigerian freelancers and potential clients, both locally and abroad.

“The platform’s concept was developed in 2021 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when friends and peers of the co-founders began seeking remote work due to lockdown-related job losses,” the statement read.

Speaking further on the challenges faced by Nigerian freelancers, and how Hamzry aims at resolving these issues, Mr Joel said, “We realised a lot of Nigerian freelancers were late to the party on global platforms, hence the difficulty in getting noticed.

“They are buried under thousands of listings, lack early reviews, and face payment barriers that make receiving funds difficult.”

“Hamzry solves all of that by giving Nigerian talent their own marketplace and direct access to clients locally and internationally,” he added.

The statement also explained how Hamzry aims to resolve payment challenges commonly faced by users on foreign platforms

“Unlike foreign platforms that sometimes use payment processors like PayPal, which isn’t available in Nigeria, Hamzry allows freelancers to receive payments directly into their Nigerian bank accounts, offering convenience, speed, and trust,” the statement read.

Explaining how Hamzry isn’t only created for freelancers, Mr Agala, co-founder, said the marketplace also serves business owners in the country.

“Our vision is to empower local freelancers and serve the unmet demand from businesses within Nigeria and beyond,” he said.
