Luno, a global cryptocurrency investment platform, has partnered with AltSchool Africa, an accredited alternative education provider, to deliver fully funded crypto education to 15,000 Nigerian residents. 

The strategic collaboration, officially announced on 16 December 2025, represents the largest initiative of its kind on the continent and is designed to tackle misinformation while promoting safer participation in the digital economy.

The core of the programme is a beginner-friendly course titled “Demystifying Crypto for Africans,” which will launch in March 2026. Led by Web3 expert Abdulsamad Tiamiyu, the curriculum focuses on practical, Africa-centric applications of digital assets, including their use for remittances, inflation-resilient savings, global trading, and entrepreneurship.

A curriculum grounded in practicality

The programme is designed to bridge the significant knowledge gap in a country where 33% of the population is already engaging with digital assets. The course architecture emphasizes hands-on learning over pure theory to help participants navigate the evolving financial landscape with confidence.

The curriculum features:

Five core modules designed to be completed within a three-to-four-week timeframe.

Hands-on experience with essential industry tools, including digital wallets, exchanges, and research platforms like CoinGecko and Etherscan.

Flexible, self-paced learning consisting of video lessons, quizzes, and case studies, with participants granted up to one year of access to materials.

Professional certification awarded by AltSchool Africa upon successful completion of final assessments.

Strategic economic empowerment

Ayotunde Alabi, CEO of Luno Nigeria, highlighted the initiative as a foundational investment in the integrity of the local crypto industry. He noted that as adoption accelerates, formal literacy must grow alongside it to turn perceived financial risks into real economic opportunities.

Phased Rollout and Application Process

To ensure high-quality delivery, the 15,000 scholarships will be distributed across three cohorts of 5,000 learners each throughout 2026:

Cohort 1: Applications open January–February 2026; course begins in March.

Cohort 2: Course access opens in July 2026.

Cohort 3: Course access opens in November 2026.

The programme is open to Nigerian residents aged 18 and above. Applicants must hold a Luno account prior to enrolling through the AltSchool Africa portal. Scholarship decisions will typically be communicated within one week of application.
