The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology has ordered a two-week closure of its Iseyin campus.
This followed a demonstration by students over the death of a 200-level boy, who was killed by a yet-to-be-identified commercial driver on the Iseyin/Saki Road, Oyo State.
Findings by Press revealed that the deceased was a student of the Department of Agricultural Economics.
The incident occurred on Friday morning.
It was gathered that other students, in protest over the tragedy, set the commercial vehicle ablaze after discovering that the driver had fled the scene.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, the university Registrar, Olayinka Balogun, said management had approved the temporary closure of the Iseyin campus in light of the student’s death.
Balogun stated, “The management of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, deeply regrets to announce the tragic passing of a 200-level student of the Department of Agricultural Economics, who was fatally wounded by a hit-and-run driver in Iseyin.
“This heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over our university community, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
“In recognition of the emotional toll it has taken on our students and staff, the university management has approved a two-week suspension of academic activities at the Iseyin campus, effective immediately.
“All students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources are to proceed on a two-week break. Academic activities are expected to resume on Monday, November 24, 2025. Officers on essential services who may be required to be on duty will be informed in the usual manner.”
Balogun urged students to remain safe, support one another, and honour the memory of their departed colleague.
