The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has issued a directive restricting the unauthorised use of its campuses and facilities for content creation, following a rise in inappropriate and misleading audiovisual materials produced within the institution.
The Deputy Registrar and Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR), Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, in a statement released on Friday, explained that the university expressed concern over the increasing trend particularly among students, who record skits, short videos, and other forms of content without approval.
According to her, some of these materials have been found to be offensive, inappropriate and inconsistent with the values and public image of LASU.
“Such content poses reputational risks and could undermine LASU’s status as a centre of learning, research and character development,” the university warned.
To address the issue, Thomas-Onashile announced that anyone wishing to engage in cinematographic activities on campus must obtain prior approval from the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR), located on the third floor of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building at the Ojo main campus.
The directive, she noted, covers skits, vox pops, short films, promotional videos and any other audiovisual recordings within the university premises, hostels, or affiliated facilities.
The university also prohibited the use of drones within its environment without formal authorisation from the institution’s security department, citing safety, privacy and security concerns.
The deputy registrar called for the cooperation of all stakeholders in protecting the dignity and reputation of the university.
