Lagos State Government has announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), popularly known as the Junior WAEC, will commence on June 29 and end on July 6, 2026.

The announcement was made by the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education through the Lagos State Examinations Board in a statement released on Thursday.

According to the board, the examination is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 29, 2026, and conclude on Monday, July 6, 2026.

The Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Mr. Adebayo Orunsolu, described the examination as a key stage in the academic progression of students across the state.

“The examination remains a significant academic milestone in the educational journey of students across the State,” he said.

Orunsolu urged parents, guardians and school administrators to familiarise themselves with the examination timetable and ensure compliance with all directives issued by the board.

He explained that the BECE is the qualifying examination for students advancing from Junior Secondary School to Senior Secondary School in public and approved private schools across Lagos.

“The BECE serves as the official transition examination for students in public and approved private schools advancing from Junior Secondary School to Senior Secondary School,” he said.

The registrar also emphasised the importance of adequate preparation by candidates, noting that schools have a responsibility to ensure all eligible students are fully prepared and meet the necessary examination requirements.

He further assured stakeholders that the board had completed all administrative and logistical preparations required for the seamless conduct of the examination statewide.

Reiterating the state government’s commitment to maintaining examination integrity, Orunsolu restated its zero-tolerance stance on malpractice.

He warned that any act of examination malpractice, disruption or misconduct during the examination period would attract appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with existing regulations.
