The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has expelled six students for examination malpractice and withdrawn 273 others for poor academic performance during the 2024/25 academic session.
In a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale, the institution disclosed that the withdrawals were approved after the affected students performed below expectations in the first semester examinations.
“This was part of the far-reaching decisions at the 120th meeting of the Board held on Thursday, April 17, at the Board Room of the Polytechnic Main Campus, Lokoja,” the statement read.
The Board Chairman, Prof Salisu Ogbo Usman, commended the Academic Board Result Verification Committee, led by the Deputy Rector, Dr Samuel Taiwo Olowo, for its diligence in reviewing the results and urged the committee to maintain its standards.
Usman, however, expressed dissatisfaction with some students’ poor performance despite the institution’s fitting learning environment. “The withdrawal, which spread across 20 departments and 42 programmes, underscores the need for students to be more focused,” he stated.
Commending the Central Examination Misconduct Committee and related committees for their thorough work, Prof Usman called for continued collaboration to sustain the Polytechnic’s teaching and learning quality.
He reassured the Polytechnic community of the Board’s and Management’s commitment to implementing reforms that benefit the institution and urged students to maximise the favourable learning environment provided.
The expelled and withdrawn students have been directed to return all the institution’s property, including identity cards, to the Security Unit before leaving.
