The Katsina State Government has disclosed plan to introduce a special allowance package for teachers posted to rural areas in the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musa-Musawa disclosed at one-day summit in Katsina on Tuesday.
Bolscholarnews reports that the summit was organised in collaboration with Save the Children International, GoalPrime Nigeria, with funding from Education Cannot Wait.
Represented by Hajiya Raliya Yusuf, the Director of Schools, Senior, in the ministry, the Commissioner noted a plan to compensate the teachers with a percentage of their salary.
According to Musa-Musawa, the aim of the allowance is to encourage them to accept posting to rural areas, especially some places with lite security challenges.
She explained that it’s worrisome to see that many teachers always want to remain within the urban areas, leaving the rural areas with very few teachers.
She said that the ministry was doing everything possible to solve the problem and expressing confidence that the introduction of the allowance would assist.
BSN reports that the summit was organised to mark the international day to protect education from attack, with the theme, “Challenging Narratives, Reshaping Action”.
