Kano State Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda, has announced the state government’s plan to construct 130 new schools across the state under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment Project.

Makoda stated that the project would comprise 75 junior secondary schools and 55 senior secondary schools spread across the state.

This was revealed in a press statement made available to Punch by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Education, Kano State, Alhaji Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru.

The commissioner also highlighted the government’s introduction of digital literacy programmes to enhance the quality of education in the state.

He lamented that the previous administration had neglected the education sector, resulting in dilapidated infrastructure, overcrowded classrooms, and an insufficient number of teachers.

The commissioner thanked development partners for their contributions to the progress of the state’s education sector and assured that the current administration would continue to provide support to achieve its educational goals.

The statement read: “The Kano State Education Sector Joint Steering Committee held a two-day meeting in Kaduna to review the 2025–2026 key education priorities.

“The meeting, which took place from Saturday, 22nd to Sunday, 23rd February 2025, aimed to align these priorities with the state’s education strategic objectives for better outcomes.”

Makoda added that the meeting was crucial for reviewing and approving key education priorities, validating work plans, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.

He further stated that the committee discussed critical areas, including the Kano Education Recovery Plan and the implementation of the 14-point agenda.

“This meeting serves as a platform for the exchange of ideas, where new issues were raised and positive resolutions adopted for effective education policy delivery,” he said.
