Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved the release of ₦3.77bn for critical interventions in the education sector, covering school rehabilitation, learning materials and outstanding payments to contractors and suppliers across the state.

The approval was granted at the 35th Kano State Executive Council meeting held on December 18, 2025, as part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to revive public education and improve learning conditions in schools.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Tofa.

According to the statement, “₦1.69bn was approved for the settlement of boarding school food suppliers for the 2025/2026 academic session, while ₦375m was earmarked for the procurement of 50,000 school bags for pupils across the state.

“The Council also approved ₦369.9m for the rehabilitation of Government Secondary School, Mariri, as well as ₦1.32bn for the relocation and reconstruction of Maikwatashi and Danwaire Primary Schools, which have been affected by environmental and structural challenges.”

Yusuf said the investments were deliberate and strategic, aimed at restoring quality, safety and dignity in public education.

“Education remains the backbone of our development agenda. We are determined to ensure that our children learn in safe, decent and well-equipped environments,” the governor said.

He added that the payment of suppliers and contractors was necessary to rebuild confidence in government and sustain service delivery in the education sector.

“When we honour our obligations, we encourage commitment, efficiency and better outcomes. Our focus is to fix the system and ensure value for every naira spent,” Yusuf stated.

The governor further directed all contractors handling classroom and school projects across the 44 local government areas of the state to complete their work within one month, warning that delays would no longer be tolerated.

The approvals form part of the Yusuf administration’s broader push to address years of decay in public schools and reposition the education sector as a foundation for long-term socio-economic development in Kano State.
