The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has fixed May 15 as the date for the formal review of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The move follows widespread complaints over alleged discrepancies in the released results.

In a letter dated May 13 and signed by Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s public communication advisor, the board invited Alex Onyi, an education consultant, to join the panel constituted to appraise the conduct of the examination.

JAMB said the review was in furtherance of its commitment to upholding public confidence in its processes, especially amid the recent outcry by candidates and stakeholders.

“The Management of the Board has approved your participation to be part of the review panel constituted to appraise the conduct of the examination with the mandate to identify challenges, if there are any, and proffer relevant recommendations to prevent a recurrence,” the letter reads in part.

Membership of the panel comprises representatives from the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, and chief external examiners.

It also includes the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria (CPN) and the Educational Assessment and Research Network.

Others include vice-chancellors of universities, rectors of polytechnics, provosts of colleges of education, and designated support staff of the board.

The board emphasised that participation in the panel would be at no cost to JAMB.

Earlier, JAMB released the 2025 UTME results, which showed that over 78 percent of candidates scored below 200 out of a possible 400 points.

The development has triggered a wave of complaints, with over 8,000 candidates reportedly submitting petitions over technical glitches during the exams.

While JAMB insists that the results reflect actual performance, the board said it is engaging with education stakeholders and ICT professionals to investigate the concerns raised and ensure the credibility of its examination processes.

The board has urged the public to remain patient as it carries out its investigation.
