The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for the completion of admissions into public universities for the 2025 academic session from October 31 to November 17, 2025.

The extension was announced in a statement signed by Fabian Benjamin, the head of Media and Public Relations.

According to the statement, the decision followed appeals from the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) and other key stakeholders citing unforeseen disruptions, including a court injunction that temporarily halted the 2025/2026 admission process.

The order, which directed that the status quo be maintained, was only lifted on October 28, 2025.

JAMB also noted that the extension became necessary after the National Universities Commission (NUC) on October 29, 2025, released a list of 229 newly accredited programmes across 37 universities. Admissions into these new programmes, the Board explained, were only just being initiated.

“You will recall that the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held on July 18, 2025, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, had fixed Friday, 31st October, 2025, as the deadline for all public universities to conclude their admission processes.

“The Board commends the zeal, diligence, and commitment demonstrated by the various public universities toward meeting this approved timeline, which was intended to allow other tiers of tertiary institutions, private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions to complete their respective admissions ahead of the overall closing date of December 31, 2025,” the statement read.

The board stated that the new deadline of Monday, November 17, 2025, is final and must be strictly adhered to.

JAMB expressed appreciation to all institutions for their cooperation and emphasised its continued commitment to ensuring a seamless, transparent, and credible admission process that aligns with national education goals and institutional autonomy.
