The conference for leaders of international education.

The Going Global Africa 2024 conference aims to continue the theme of establishing sustainable, scalable, and equitable partnerships in tertiary education through a regional lens to continue the discussions from the 2023 Conference. It will focus on improving relevance (skills to do and create jobs) and building sustainable capacity (as well as growing access) and how international education partnerships can address Africa’s needs most effectively.

The next regional Going Global conference will be held in Africa taking place in Abuja, Nigeria from 26-28 November 2024.

Conference theme: Building sustainable and relevant tertiary education institutions and systems in Africa

 

Conference objectives

The Going Global Africa conference will provide a platform to foster engagement with, and learn about, regional and global challenges in tertiary education and identify ways in which regional and international collaboration can strengthen capacity at system, institutional and individual level, ultimately contributing to improved outcomes for young Africans. 

 

Event format 

The event is designed as a face-to-face conference. The content of the conference will be curated to cater specifically to an audience interested in addressing the tertiary education opportunities and challenges facing Africa. 

 

Focus sector 

The focus will be on post-secondary level education, delivered in universities, colleges and specific TVET providers, and the systems within which these institutions operate. 

 

The conference is open to

Vice-chancellors and other tertiary education leaders 

Senior government officials and policy makers

Funders of international education, both national and multinational 

Senior representatives of trusts, donors, and foundations, key international agencies 

Heads of other sector bodies (quality assurance, regulators etc) 

Heads of multinational associations of universities

Industry leaders and private sector representatives 

Influential students and young graduates including UK Alumni 

 

Geographical scope 

This year’s event will be held in Abuja, the federal capital of Nigeria. We expect participation from across the continent including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Mauritius, Uganda, Tanzania, Botswana, Mozambique, Egypt and Libya. UK tertiary education sector and government representatives will also be invited. 

 

Participation in Going Global Africa 2024

Please note attendance for this conference is by invite only. We will strive to ensure there is fair representation in relation to geographical diversity, sector expertise, institutional profiles, gender, and disability.
