The Akpoazaa Foundation, under the leadership of Dr Frank Igbojindu, has held the fifth edition of its quiz competition, titled, “Best Brain Contest,” an academic exercise focused on promoting the learning of Mathematics and Igbo language for senior secondary school students in Anambra State.

The event held at the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board Hall in Awka over the weekend, brought together students and teachers from numerous secondary schools across the state to compete for top academic recognition.

The competition featured participants from several schools, including St. Patrick’s College, Awka; Loretto Special Science School, Adazi-Nnukwu; Bubendorff Memorial Secondary School; Christ the King College, Onitsha; Carol Standard Convent, Ichi; Holy Child Secondary School, Isuofia; Divine Destiny International School, Iyiowa; St. Theresa’s School, Enugwu-Ukwu; St. Charles College, Onitsha; Urban Girls Secondary School, Ekwulobia; and UNIZIK High School.

Organisers of the contest, Dr. Frank Igbojindu, said the aim was to encourage students who were doing well in subjects and also promote the learning of such subjects.

Igbojindu stated that the initiative was born out of his commitment to education and youth empowerment, adding that the contest aims to promote academic excellence.

He said, “The quiz competition was initiated out of my passion for education and youth development. The programme, which began in 2021 and has continued through 2025, is designed to encourage academic excellence and preserve indigenous language among young people.

“The initiative is supported by the Akpoazaa Group in collaboration with IG Aguowo Health and Academic Foundations. This is so because investment in education remains a long-term society development and a sustainable way of securing the future.”

After preliminary rounds of the competition, 10 students advanced to the final phase of the contest.

The final phase was divided into two sections, starting with the Igbo Language quiz and concluding with the Mathematics segment, both of which assessed the participants’ knowledge, reasoning skills, and academic strength.

In the Mathematics category, Obieze Chikaima of UNIZIK High School secured first place and received N100,000, along with a trophy, medal, and certificate of distinction.

The second position went to Onuzulike Daniel of St. Patrick’s College, Awka, who earned N60,000, a medal, and a certificate, while Ogbuagu Paul of All Hallows Seminary, Onitsha finished third and was awarded N40,000, a medal, and a certificate of distinction.

The Igbo Language segment was won by Ndubilo Rosemary of Loretto Special Science School, Adazi-Nnukwu. Ukwueze Chidera of St. Patrick’s College, Awka placed second, receiving N60,000 and a medal, while Ugochukwu Desmond of Christ the King College, Onitsha came third and was rewarded with N40,000 and a trophy.

The competition attracted a large audience, with students participating alongside their teachers. One of the highlights of the event was the recognition of teachers whose schools recorded outstanding performances.

Such schools were honoured with N100,000 each and presented with trophies under the Teachers’ Champion Award, celebrating academic excellence.
