A fire outbreak on Tuesday reportedly destroyed 34 classrooms at an Animal Health School in Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State, causing extensive damage to the educational facility.

The incident, which occurred in the afternoon, threw the school community into panic before firefighters were able to bring the inferno under control.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the fire broke out at about 2:53 pm.

He said the fire service control room received a distress call from Jamilu Abubakar, who alerted authorities to the outbreak at the school premises.

Firefighters from the Rijiyar Zaki Fire Station were immediately mobilised to the scene to contain the blaze.

“On arrival, our men discovered a ground-floor building measuring about 500 by 500 feet, used as an Animal Health School, engulfed in flames,” the statement said.

The fire service said 16 classrooms were severely affected, while 18 others were partially damaged by the inferno.

Despite the scale of the fire, responders were able to prevent it from spreading further within the school compound.

The statement credited the swift intervention of firefighters for stopping the fire from reaching other classrooms and administrative offices.

“One firefighting truck from Rijiyar Zaki Fire Station was deployed to contain the incident,” it said, noting that the prompt response played a key role in limiting the damage.

Press reports that no casualties, however, were reported as of the time of filing this report, while the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.

Authorities said investigations would be carried out to determine the source of the outbreak, even as efforts begin to assess the full extent of losses suffered by the institution.
