The Federal Government has donated and installed interactive Smart Boards at the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) as part of efforts to strengthen data collection, monitoring and planning in the nation’s basic education sector.

Speaking during the presentation and installation of the devices at the Board’s Secretariat Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Chairman of Ogun SUBEB, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, described the initiative as a significant step towards building a technology-driven national education database.

Ifede expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the intervention and assured that the devices would be used strictly for their intended purpose.

He commended the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, for fulfilling his commitment to equip all 36 state ministries of education and State Universal Basic Education Boards with the technology.

According to him, the deployment of the Smart Boards to Ogun SUBEB and the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology will significantly improve data management and monitoring within the education sector.

“The devices will enhance the collection, processing and management of educational data, thereby supporting effective planning and decision-making,” he said.

In his remarks, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) State Coordinator, Mr. Sola Badmus, described the handover as a landmark development for the state’s education sector.

He noted that the Smart Boards would revolutionise school data collection and monitoring by providing policymakers with accurate and reliable information for evidence-based decision-making.

Also speaking, Mr. Adewale Adesanya of the Federal Ministry of Education, who oversees Lagos and Ogun States, explained that the interactive Smart Boards would be deployed for the Annual School Census under the Digital National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS).

He said the technology would enable real-time collection and monitoring of school data across the country, providing government at all levels with the information needed for effective policy formulation and educational planning.

Adesanya added that the initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to leverage technology in improving education management and strengthening the quality of data available for decision-making in the sector.
