The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to human capital development through inclusive and skills-based education.

The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, stated this on Tuesday at the official inauguration of the IsDB–UBEC Bilingual Education Boarding School in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State.

“Sustained investment in education remains a core pillar of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s transformation agenda aimed at equipping Nigerian children with relevant skills for global competitiveness,” she said.

The minister explained that the establishment of bilingual model schools across the country reflects the Federal Government’s resolve to equip learners with linguistic, vocational and digital competencies.

According to her, multilingual education prepares students to participate effectively in diverse social and economic systems, while also helping to reduce the number of out-of-school children and improve learning outcomes through modern teaching methods.

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ibrahim, pledged sustained collaboration to ensure the effective utilisation of the school.

He expressed confidence that the facility would expand access to quality education and significantly reduce the number of out-of-school children in Kano State and beyond.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to education reform, describing the initiative as a strategic investment in opportunity, knowledge and national development.

The governor highlighted recent policy changes in the education sector, including the declaration of a state of emergency in education aimed at addressing long-standing challenges such as poor standards and limited access.

He stressed that the reforms are driven by the belief that the nation’s future depends largely on how well today’s children are educated.

“Education must remain a top priority,” he said, noting that access to quality education is critical for children from disadvantaged backgrounds and essential for building the competencies needed to succeed in a rapidly changing global environment.

In her remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Aisha Garba, said the Kiru facility is one of 30 Bilingual Education Model Schools being constructed across nine states nationwide.

She disclosed that Kano State is hosting four of the schools, located in Doguwa, Ganduje, Ungoggo and Kiru.

According to her, the schools integrate English and Arabic literacy with technical and vocational education, ICT-driven learning and secure boarding facilities.

Garba described the inauguration as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to guaranteeing access to safe, inclusive and quality education for every Nigerian child, assuring that the commission would continue to support the school through teacher engagement, effective management and regular monitoring.
