FG Commits to Major Infrastructure Boost for Army Varsity

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming the Nigerian Army University, Biu (NAUB), into a leading institution for specialised military and civilian education.

It promised to undertake major infrastructure development and expand opportunities for military personnel.

The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), announced this when he hosted members of the Governing Council of the university in his office in Abuja.

Musa said the government would continue to provide strategic support to the institution, describing it as critical to building the technical and operational capacity required to address Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

The minister announced that the Ministry of Defence would work closely with the Armed Forces of Nigeria to fully utilise the 30 percent admission quota reserved for military personnel in order to bridge specialised skills gaps within the nation’s security sector.

“As the Federal Government pushes for a highly skilled workforce in this digital era, we must encourage members of the Armed Forces, ministry staff and the general public to leverage the cutting-edge technological and academic solutions available at NAUB,” he said.

Musa also announced plans to address the university’s infrastructure deficit, saying the Defence Ministry and the Governing Council of the university had agreed to prioritise critical projects on the campus.

He said one of the key projects would be the construction of a state-of-the-art Centre for Military Performance Management, which is expected to be the first of its kind in Africa.

The leader of the delegation and Pioneer Pro-Chancellor of the university, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd.), hailed the minister for what he called his “visionary leadership and strategic contributions” to strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture.

Buratai also expressed appreciation for the minister’s commitment to the Armed Forces and national development.

The retired Chief of Army Staff (COAS) assured the minister of the university’s continued dedication to academic excellence, research and service to the nation.
