The federal government, on Thursday, announced the reopening of 47 Unity Colleges that were shut due to security challenges across Nigeria.
The Ministry of Education announced the development in a statement issued by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo on December 18, 2025.
Boriowo noted that the decision followed the reinforcement of security arrangements in and around the premises of the affected schools.
Boriowo disclosed that students had since returned to their campuses and normal academic activities had resumed.
She said some of the schools were currently wrapping up their December academic sessions, while others had already concluded their examinations.
The Ministry spokesperson reassured parents and guardians of the government’s commitment to the safety and welfare of students, adding that it was working closely with security agencies to sustain peace and stability in school environments.
Boriowo emphasised that education remained a key pillar of national development.
