The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has announced the rehabilitation of 73 Government Secondary Schools across Abuja as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to revamp public infrastructure and improve access to quality education.
Wike, who made the disclosure on Tuesday during the flag-off of the rehabilitation of the 15-kilometre Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei, said the massive investment in school renovation and road infrastructure demonstrates President Tinubu’s resolve to deliver on his promises to Nigerians.
“Out of 103 Government Secondary Schools in the FCT, 73 are currently under rehabilitation, while 33 more projects will soon be flagged off,” the Minister said. “Out of 105 ongoing projects, 73 are located within AMAC and the city. This administration is working hard to change things for the better both for Nigerians and the people of Abuja.”
Wike noted that the Old Keffi Road project was one of several major interventions approved by President Tinubu to ease traffic congestion, enhance connectivity, and promote economic activities across FCT communities.
He recalled that when the President assumed office in 2023, one of the emergency projects he approved was the rehabilitation of Saburi 1 and Saburi 2 roads, adding that the Old Keffi Road rehabilitation fulfills a promise made to residents and traders during the earlier project commissioning.
“When we commissioned the Saburi Road, I said it could only be complete if this Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei was also rehabilitated. Today, to the glory of God, we are here to fulfill that promise made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Wike said.
The Minister disclosed that Lubrik Construction Company, which handled the Saburi project, has again been awarded the 15km Old Keffi Road rehabilitation due to the quality of their past work and their proven technical capacity.
Wike also commended the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, for being a “true representative of his people” by consistently advocating for priority projects that meet the needs of residents.
“That is what true representation means choosing leaders who understand your needs and are committed to pursuing them,” he said. “Chairman Maikalangu deserves your continued support for the sake of continuity.”
The Minister urged residents to remain supportive of the Tinubu administration, warning them not to be swayed by politicians who “failed to deliver when they had the chance.”
“Do not be deceived by people who come with empty stories. We gave them a first chance they failed. We gave them a second chance they failed again. If we make the mistake of giving them a third chance, they will destroy everything,” he cautioned.
Wike revealed that the FCT Administration has lined up 27 project flag-offs across Abuja a feat he said “has never happened before” emphasizing that the projects are tangible evidence of the President’s commitment to development.
He directed the construction company to prioritize local content by employing youths, men, and women from host communities to enable them benefit economically during the project’s execution.
In her vote of thanks, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, lauded President Tinubu for his continuous support to infrastructure renewal and for prioritizing projects that directly touch the lives of citizens.
“This road is a lifeline that serves thousands of commuters daily, linking communities, reducing travel time, improving road safety, and stimulating socio-economic activities across this axis,” Mahmoud said.
She also commended Wike for his purposeful leadership, describing the project as another testament to the administration’s commitment to connectivity and inclusive development in the FCT.
